Mandela Day '23
Tiisetso Community Projects and LifeHouse Church visited The Thabo Community Center, focusing on caring for the Elderly and disabled.
Making a difference where it matters
Tiisetso Community Projects and LifeHouse Church visited The Thabo Community Center, focusing on caring for the Elderly and disabled. 18 people live with various disabilities, whose names, details and needs were recorded to be followed up at a later date.
The donations were overwhelming this year with R25 000 worth of clothing donated and food to the value of R15 000 given out to those who are disabled.
20 Volunteers arrived and for 67 minutes, sorted, packed food parcels, folded and separated clothing, repacked storage areas and prayed for people. It was tremendous to see how many lives were impacted.
Thank you to everyone who was involved.
Thabo Mbeki Training Centre
The community Skills Centre was conceived by the community and built using local labour and the innovative us of “Eco Bricks.” These Eco Bricks are PET plastic bottles which were recovered as waste from the community. Several tons of plastic waste was recycled in the creation of the Skills Centre, making it a very eco-friendly project. The plastic waste was collected by the residents themselves which in itself created employment and additional income for many..
The Skills Development Centre forms the primary mechanism for enabling the community of Thabo Mbeki. This has become a hub of coaching, mentoring, training, and work exposure and incorporates skills, personal and social development activities, and emergency interventions.
#MandelaDay Initiative
On Sunday, 1st August 2021, we went into Thabo Mbeki and met some of the community leaders at the Training Centre. Read more about what we did.
For Mandela Day this year, Lifehouse went into the Thabo Mbeki Community to provide clothes to some of their most neediest families. The week before this event was filled with sorting and preparing. Dainfern Valley dropped off many bags full of clothes, at our building, which Lifehouse members sorted through and packed.
On Sunday, 1st August, we went into Thabo Mbeki and met some of the community leaders at the training centre. A handful of our members got into cars with these leaders and drove through the community handing out bags of clothes and praying for these families, while some of our other members stayed back at the community centre praying over the area and people. In total we were able to assist 69 different families with clothes.
It was so encouraging being able to love and give to those in need. A small moment of stepping into what God has called his sons and daughters to.
This was the first of many moments that we will spend in Thabo Mbeki Community.
Thanks so much to everyone who contributed.
